About Us
We are a group of Muslim professionals who believe that all major religions share the same ultimate objective of connecting mankind with God. Thus, there is no reason why different faith denominations cannot live in harmony and with mutual respect, both in the United States of America and around the world.
We stand firmly for the Quranic message of “no compulsion in religion”, and for the personal liberties and freedoms of expression that define modern civilization, except when these are targeted at the weak or marginalized in society.
We believe that conflicts should and can be resolved through peaceful means. We consider human life to be sacred and distance ourselves from those who do not. In particular, we have nothing to do with criminal extremist groups and their perverted ideologies, and denounce in the strongest terms those who overtly and covertly support them.
Ultimately, we aspire for a world in which countries learn to respect the rights of both, their own citizens, and those of the citizens of other countries. Finally, we see an important role for spreading democratic institutions, modern education, and gender equality as a way of transforming Muslim societies across the world.
The Story Behind This Project
We are living in a very interesting time. Individuals and organisations are using the Internet to disseminate Information and mis-information across the globe around-the-clock. Islam and Muslims aren't immune from this phenomena. Mainstream media sensationalises events to drive more eyeballs and generate profits. The same is true of various individuals and organisations that have a vested interest in showing Islam and Muslims in a negative light. Irresponsible reporting and negative stereotyping of Muslims and Islam, has serious ramifications and is impacting the personal well being of millions of Muslims and non-Muslims worldwide.
Every faith and community has its bad apples and this is true of Islam as well. However, one must not lose sight of the fact that this is a very small group of individuals. General estimates put them at less than 0.1% of the global Muslim population of 1.6 Billion. This tiny minority has hijacked our religion and is conducting abhorrent acts in the name of Islam. Like all decent and law abiding citizens of the world, we stand against them and their twisted ideology.
The MuslimsRUs movement was initiated to educate Muslims and non-Muslims about the core tenets of Islam, dispel myths about Islam and Muslims, highlight the contributions that Islam and Muslims have and will continue to make in their communities and to raise awareness about the rich traditions of our faith. Through works of charity, community service, and opening our doors to listen and love, we are continuing the traditions of our prophets and our faith.
