Books & Articles

There is a large body of literary work related to Islam and its traditions. Here are some of the articles curated by our community members to educate others about the Holy Quran, Women In Islam, Charity and Humanity in Islam. The primary purpose is to educate readers, raise awareness and dispel mis-information that is being spread about Islam.

Islamic History

Islamic History

This book is interesting because it is written by an Englishman well in the 19th century, and so predates by more than a century, the tension between Muslim countries and the west. The preface reads: “The present work is an humble but earnest endeavour to free the history of Mohammed from false accusations and illiberal imputations, and to vindicate his just claim to be regarded as one of the greatest benefactors of mankind”. Davenport was not a seasoned historian.

Humanity in Islam

Humanity in Islam

Islam preaches equality of all human beings regardless of their color, where they come from or the home they were born in. This is displayed in every facet of the religion, especially in the daily prayer, where all Muslims pray together behind a prayer leader, shoulder-to-shoulder.

Women In Islam

Women In Islam

In the west, the common picture of a Muslim woman is the stereotype of a woman hidden behind a veil, a voiceless, silent figure, bereft of rights. It is a picture familiar to all of us, in large part because this is invariably how the western media portrays women in Islam. The reality is very much different, as noted in the Muslim scriptures and practised by the Prophet Muhammad during his lifetime.

Charity in Islam

Charity in Islam

Islam makes charity compulsory to all Muslims and it is one of the five pillars of the religion and is called Zakat. Muslims have to give to the poor and needy and those that are less fortunate, to please god.
